Insulation - you dirty RATS!
Got about half done, hoping I can finish this up tomorrow and NOT have to get under there are third day... The real sucky thing about this job is the water. If it was dry, it would be annoying, but tolerable and not miserable. Between water logged insulation and rain, I was completely soaked after about an hour. Even with 2 pairs of workgloves on at once, including a rubber pair, my hands looked like I had been in the pool for 4 hours when I was done. Goggles fogging up was also a problem. (I couldn't find a full mask respirator, no one had them). Thank god I had my old Rollerblade armor, too many rocks and boards under there to have no protection. please please sunshine and warm tomorrow. and even better, please no more crappy jobs like this - please let one of us here on youTube win like 53 Million in the lottery - that will be enough to go around! :)

Sadly, healthcare workers worldwide are often not getting the protection they need from airborne disease,such as the current swine flu. In this current swine flu outbreak, CDC began suggesting that surgical masks will do to protect healthcare workers (without the nylon stockings mentioned in this song). Much evidence regarding airborne transmission and the need for true respirators has accumulated since this video was made. A recent report by the US Institute of Medicine (IOM) RESPIRATORY PROTECTION FOR HEALTHCARE WORKERS IN THE WORKPLACE AGAINST NOVEL H1N1 INFLUENZA A (WWW.NAP.EDU ) supports that health care workers who interact with patients suspected or confirmed to be infected with novel H1N1 influenza Ashould wear fitted N95 respirators, which filter better than looser medical masks. However, wearing N95 respirators should be only one element of workers' and health care organizations' infection control strategies. This video shows the importance of respirator fit testing for healthcare workers who will be exposed to H1N1 (swine) flu. It also demonstrates the quantitative fit testing protocol, (using the TSI Portacount machine) one of two methods generally approved for employers to use. Benzene synthesis from Benzoate - about 2.5l crude
I have run this around 10 times now, in a 2.5l paint can, trying various different methods of insulation. I am using NaOH and I've also used KOH. NaOH melts a little lower than KOH, closer to the melting point of benzoate. To find your values, devide the mass of benzoate by 144.14. Then times the result by 39.9 for the number of grams of NaOH you will need, and 56.1 if using KOH. Use an excess of base. Buy the base in 5 kilo tubs or by the sack at this scale to save some £££ on buying it in half and 1 kilo packs at the DIY store. A major problem with bulk methods is trying to heat the can through. As the mixture reacts, it insulates the base of the can and blocks heat getting from to the top. With larger containers and masses, the surface area to volume drops, making it harder to pass the heat through without warping or melting the can. Simply using a bigger burner won't do much to solve this. The copper tube is fixed to the can by a 15mm compression plumbing part called a 'tank fitting' or 'tank coupler'. This has one compression olive for fixing the 15mm pipe and then a pair of flanges, one of which sits on the inside of the can. A 20 - 21mm hole allows the flange side of the fitting to pass through where it's done up on the opposite side. It is lined with PTFE. Despite so much abuse, the PTFE and fitting are still perfectly all right. The can, on the other hand, is now looking like it's on it's way out. This is a requested video. These goggles made a brief appearance in my first video. Not a gas mask, but they are still interesting. They are goggles meant to be worn with a half-face respirator. I have had these for probably 11 years. They were purchased for around $10. I have yet to see another pair and I can't seem to find any information on them. If anyone has any ideas, post a comment. MSA MCU-2/P and Gas Mask VPU Review
Not so much of a review, more of just telling about the mask. But in case you guys are dying for my opinion, I think this is possibly one of the coolest masks ever made. Its comfortable, its lightweight, it has a great field of vision, and is just overall an astounding mask. Also, I know you guys cant hear too well on the video when I am speaking through the VPU but it is very clear in person. And sounds a lot like the combine ;)

The JSP Fit Testing Solution
Qualitative Fit Testing can be used on what are defined as tight fitting respirators, with the exception of full face masks. Within the JSP Respiratory Protective Equipment range these products are: Moulded Disposable Dust Masks Vertical Fold Flat Dust Masks Tradesman 2 and 3 (fitted with dust filters) Maximask 2000 Half Mask (fitted with dust filters) Full face masks cannot be tested because the test hood is not large enough for the mask fitted with a filter. For testing this product it will be necessary to use the Quantitative method (discussed below). Qualitative Fit Testing can be used not only as a test method to ensure your employees are properly protected; but also as a very effective way of training them in the correct way of fitting a mask. Dust and half masks commonly fail to do the job they are intended to do because of poor fitting and care by the user. The seal between the face and the edge of the mask is the most common problem area. You will also see users using a mask after having kept it on their head or hanging round the neck. The test employs a hood to create a small test chamber around the users head, and a test solution. This test solution has a bitter taste. It is the same type of solution that is put on childrens toys and fingernails to stop them chewing them. Spray Painting Hazards and Air Line Respirator 1930s
A conflict between industrialization and worker health developed in the painting industry during the early 1900s with the introduction of the spray machine. This technological innovation allowed the application of paint at greater speed and lower cost than hand painting and increased the rate at which painters were exposed to lead and other toxins contained in paint. By the mid-1920s, the spray machine was being used by painters for a wide variety of work. Although workers had expressed growing concern over the safety of the spray gun since World War I, painters and union leaders began to formally organize opposition to the device in 1924. At the core of their resistance was the belief that the spray machine was indeed hazardous to the health of workers. The first official recognition of the hazard of spray painting came in 1924, when the Wisconsin Industrial Commission investigated the spray machine and established guidelines for the regulation of its use within the state. The commission recommended a variety of regulations setting restrictions on the type of spray equipment that could be used, established mandatory use of ventilation and safety devices, and outlined limits on the number of hours per day painters could use the machines.
